Former President and Chief Justice Sahabuddin Ahmed's first namaz-e-janaza has been held.
Janaza was held at 4:10 pm on Saturday at Pemayi village of Paikura union in Kendua upazila of Netrokona.
Netrokona Kendua Upazila Chairman. Moinuddin Khandaker said that the body of Sahabuddin Ahmed was brought to Pemayi village by helicopter around 3 pm. After the first janaza here, the body will be taken to Dhaka again.
The second janaza will be held on Sunday at 10 am at the National Eidgah ground. He will be buried at Banani Cemetery after Janaza.
Former President Sahabuddin Ahmed breathed his last at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital at 10:25 am today.
Anwara Ahmed, wife of Sahabuddin Ahmed, died in 2016 at the age of 70 after a long illness.
After the formation of the Awami League government in 1996, Sahabuddin Ahmed was elected President. He held this position till November 14, 2001.
